The Logotype or, more simply, Logo (from the greek logos, that’s “word”), is a word graphically stylized till being rendered a symbol. It’s one of the more interesting examples of graphic design expressions.
Letters and fonts, by themselves, condense design and meant but, while in the oriental alphabets the relationship between graphical sign and meant never has not lost, in the western cultures it’s possible to find again it (re-invented), in expressions like the logos. Like a graphic illustrator, I’ve designed some logos too. Here to you a pair of them.
The following one, is the logo for a videobox, organized many years ago in a small city near Milan, called Melzo.
As you can notice, the graphic style is inspired to the graffiti of some years ago. I’ve always appreciated the “designed” logos, regarding those simply composed from letters. A famous graphic designer which has this approach is Roger Dean, author of the logos and covers of much Pop progressive bands, like the “Yes”.
I have designed the second logo for a international competition, announced publicly a pair of years ago from the Piedmontese Municipality of Carmagnola. The logo demanded, it served for a restored ancient palace, destined to being a gallery of modern art.
